Just a quick post to kick off the New Year

This model of ancient Rome is a perfect example of how a traditional city looks from above;

  • Maximum building coverage coupled w/ really narrow (i.e. people scaled) streets
  • Little to no pointless "green space," but plenty of interior courtyards and gardens
  • Numerous plazas, markets, and other public spaces

  1. This model is hidden away in one of Rome's fascist-era museums, built as part of the EUR (the original edge city), that tourists rarely visit. I went during peak travel season and was one of about ten other people in the whole museum, but seeing the model, which fills an entire large room, is worth the price of admission alone.
